Hey everyone I want to show you how easy it is to dress up your crochet, even if you have used the same pattern 100x
I started with an awesome idea in mind! I decided I was going to remake my Drink Mitten Cozy as a “holiday Beverage Holder” & possibly re-market it to a more “Family friendly” market.
I had the theme & colours in mind + I wanted a bit of texture. I also knew I would hit a creative wall before finishing. I decided that - as a priority - I would ignore that suspicion (aka knowledge) & just cross the bridge when I came to it.
I started with this:
Below is what I created… I have to speak honestly with you, I was in a car accident yesterday (right after making this… so when I got home from the hospital) I looked at this & thought “ I CAN DO BETTER”. I needed some form of control today, a win of sorts, even something as silly as this had the power to lift my spirits after a traumatizing event; so after I handed my keys over to the tow truck company ( -sigh- ), my family and I made our way to Micheal’s Craft store (in a very clever attempt to cheer me up - DKM I’m easy, I can’t help it), all for ONE item.
One item I had thought on all night & we hadn’t decided on yet. Would it be a button? Or a buckle?? With craft stores, sometimes it’s just the luck of the draw, what is in stock/ what isn’t.
We walked in with VERY specific intentions -that wasn’t yarn for once- & spent at least an hour scouring all of Micheal’s back to front, then side to side with my brother and 3 year old in toe, playing as they went, just as loud as they could.
In the shop (we had our determination hats on)
& we found nothing! Nothing that is until Nelson thought outside the box! “Why not use this” he says to me holding this glorious basket. I welled up with tears at the sight of it. We reached our goal & together!
Gleaming on the front of this basket was THE MOST PERFECT BUCKLE I HAD EVER SEEN… I mean it took us an hour to find this & then it CAME WITH A BELT that only made my project look EVEN BETTER!
I was so excited, I squeed’ they teared up, then found my brother and child & went to buy my $7 basket just. for. the. buckle.
Take a look at what I had created below!
The best part?
The Basket was 50% OFF & the belt with the buckle on it peeled off so easy I even got to save that and reuse it! All I did to attach this perfect addition to my mitten was used a bit of hot glue! First right under the buckle, then wearing the glove I glued the belt in place!
Small things like this can make a BIG statement when you are looking for the best photograph possible & sometimes clean plain lines with minimal interest sell best.
I hope this has helped you think a little more outside the box & reconsider what your flow is. If you’re interested in the pattern used to produce the “Holiday” version of my Drink Mitten it’s HERE & it includes multiple sizes, multiple videos, a sketch of the gloves for the other hand & many many step by step photos.
