Create a Crochet Community & get Inspired

Hey Mamma’s (and daddies’) If you are ever wondering what to make, you have a lot of vague ideas but are in need of some eye catching-ly brilliant crochet, then this is the blog for you.

I realize that crochet is a solo sport. We do for ourselves & usually alone. I just want to point out (though you probably already know) there is also quite a large community for it online now.  I actually stumbled across the online community after 20 years of on and off practice, I am so thankful. A really great place to meet like minded people (crocheters) is in facebook in groups.  The amount of crochet groups out there now is astonishing, even more so are the numbers of members recorded!  There is a crochet group for almost everything.  Just by searching in the top search bar in facebook you can find many many Crochet groups.  Here are my Favorites in no particular order, if you’re a crochet designer this might be helpful:

Repeat Crafter Me (Extremely open and unique group of people - self promo friendly)

Crochet it like it is (old school crochet group, they love all things)

Nothing But Crochet (a lot of interaction in this group, not self promotion friendly)

The Crochet Addiction (a really good group, encouraging of sharing and learning)

Crochet Addicted (allow self promotion to happen on Saturdays only)

Crochet Friends with Creativity (don’t allow self promo at all, nor can you share about personal life)

My Hobby is Crochet (does not want any outright selling, but will allow members to pm.  They are also a positive family friendly group)

Crochet Playground (positive family friendly group)

For the love of crochet (as long as you aren’t spamming the group they allow sharing about your small business)

Knotty Hooker Crochet and knit stitch and bitch (always awesome)

Crochet Uncensored (PG 13 version of unsensored – NOT friendly to pattern writers sharing work in their group)

Crochet Uncensored – the dark side (doesn’t get much interaction at all)

Crochet love and dreams (share your work freely here)

Crochet Addicted for life (you can post shop links)

Crochet Addict (does NOT allow self promotion)

All about the crochet Hook (this page you can sell your finished makes. Custom orders are by PM only as the group is not responsible for sales.)

Go! Join a group!! Meet your crochet people! Join multiple groups! They are all welcoming.

Inspiration

If you are in some of these groups already, you will have seen the amazing works, the brilliant potential and the blazing inspiration.  I would like to share a few of my favorite makes in this post.

Tara Nielsen from the “repeat Crafter Me” facebook group recently posted about her family’s newest arrival. Proud to be an aunty, the nursery theme is set to be where the wild things are.  Her colour pooling blanket and hat combo are sure to please her family.

She used Caron simply soft stripes in Martha’s Vineyard (3 skeins) and a technique called colour pooling

There are now colour pooling groups (if you want to learn this technique!

Crochet Planned Color Pooling and Beyond (not personally a member but I’m sure they are wonderful & helpful there are after all 2,289 members)

Finding like minded makers

Carley Pelella uses a free pattern from Rescued Paw Designs and really makes it her own with a POP of colour!

She writes “I made it about 3 x wider and just went until it was a good length”. The finished blanket she created measured roughly 5’x6’. Pattern can be found here

Jen Mitchell, owner of Nellas Cottage recently posted in ‘Repeat Crafter Me Crochet” she has designed one of my favorite crochet pieces by far.  In both it’s simplicity and attention to detail this blanket takes the cake!

Find local makers in groups by just asking a question! A favorite close to me designed this Toronto blanket and it’s really good! I have a bias for graphgans though.
