Vertical Ribbed Crunch Stitch - video tutorial. Illusion crochet, FP alternative with no gaps!

Today I’ll be sharing my Vertical Ribbed Crunch stitch alternative!

Scroll down for the video!

This pattern is a 2 stitch repeat & requires ANY yarn & hook - I suggest a slightly larger hook then the yarn suggest (to make the working loops more easily available (find-able).

It creates a Ribbed texture fabric with no gaps & is perfect for newborns!

Vertical Ribbed Crunch Stitch Gauge Swatch

For this project you will need:

  1. Hook & yarn of your choice ( I used colour made easy yarn a #5) & a 5mm hook)

  2. The yarn I used suggested a 6.5 mm hook, but that is always a ‘guide’ to give you an idea of where to start! When working a swatch it is best to test your own gauge to see how your crochet style will indeed effect the project size!

  3. Scissors

  4. Darning Needle (optional)

  5. Colour made easy yarn

Gauge swatch Measures: 4”x 4”

working with all even numbered rows ( I used a 12 chain start for my gauge swatch)

This stitch is worked as a 2 Row repeat, it requires only 2 stitches that alternate positions & creates a super tight weave!

Gauge swatch Pattern:

R1: Ch 12 + 1 & turn (all rows are turning) , *SC, SLST, repeat from * to end

(12 sts)

R2 - 18: Ch 1, *SLST, SC, repeat from * across to the end.

(12 sts)

Repeat the pattern from the * in Row 1, alternating Rows 1 & 2 - adding as many stitches as you like to create length ( any even number will allow this texture to form!).

Finished Blanket Measurements (starting counts & row amounts) are indicated within the millennial birch blanket pattern. Click here to purchase your copy that includes 8 sizes of blanket from crib to king! It is also available on Ravelry & Etsy!
